Question from @JeromeFJ on Twitter:
@GoStudentNurse so what’s the deal with new nurses getting jobs? How bad is the job market? Is the shortage a “myth” as I’ve been hearing?
Answer:
These are uncertain times.
Google is your friend. Try the search words “economic recession nursing shortage.”

The recession is affecting many people. Nursing students are no different.
Worry, stress, and uncertainty about our future nursing career options has definitely affected me, my wife, and many nurses and student nurses we know.
It’s tough.
Like any other polarizing issue it’s about politics, money, and how a society allocates its resources. There are many interrelated issues.
I’ve been personally following the nursing shortage for about 6 years, and it was one reason I pursued a nursing career.
As one of my assignments last semester, I did an educational brochure called The Nursing Shortage, Economic Crisis, and Generation Gaps. Click the title to download or view it.
This brochure is special to me:
- It was the model for the visual design of Go Student Nurse.
- It partially explains my desire to be an advocate for nursing students and new nurses.
- It partially explains my desire to share my knowledge and passion for technology with nurses and nursing students.
- It was the first creative product I made using my Mac.
- I did a public presentation at a nursing conference on the subject on behalf of nursing students.
The information on Go Student Nurse is not affiliated with California State University Long Beach.
