Mindbody Health Can Be Broad or Narrow in Scope
At its broadest, it simply assumes that our physical health is inseparable from our mental and emotional health.
At its narrowest, many frameworks are applicable to mindbody health: stress response and general adaptation syndrome (Selye), psychoneuroimmunology, psychopharmacology, psychosomatic, tension myositis syndrome (Sarno), development (Erikson, Piaget), therapeutic communication, therapeutic touch, behavioral, cognitive-behavioral, psychiatry, psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, social work, spirituality, religion, massage, etc.
It’s the holistic approach to health, and this, in itself, can be controversial and polarizing.
At a very simplistic level, how we experience our lives is merely the sum of various physiological mindbody processes of perceiving and processing stimuli from within and without.
Beliefs, attitudes, and values are key components of mindbody perception and processing that affect and effect our decisions, actions, and, ultimately, our health, our human societies, and our environment.
